Love Songs

I realized that I keep love songs in my head during the day, songs that I haven't heard in years or months or weeks (or days or hours)And they'll go along with me during the day. Let's take some time and analyze some of the songs that have filled my head recently.
So as of last year, I have been addicted to this one song by Lady Gaga called "Bad Romance"  and it is brilliantly done and ...evil. Here are the lyrics:
I want your love, and I want your revenge
You and me could write a bad romance
I want your love, and all your love is revenge
You and me could write a bad romance
Oh, caught in a bad romance Oh, caught in a bad romance

Now this is just the chorus of the song but as you can tell, it's not a holy song .  The singer is desiring something bad and compares love to revenge even saying that they are the same thing. Desiring something that is not good for you is definitely not of God. If we read Revelation 12, we see Satan taking his revenge  on the people of God, or the bride of Christ. Lady Gaga is definitely inkling to ward indulging in the devil's revenge against the people of God.

Now this song is in my head because one of my students keep singing songs around me.  It's Rihanna.
S.O.S. please someone help me.
It's not healthy... for me to feel this way
Y.O.U. are making this hard,
I can't take it, see it don't feel right
S.O.S. please someone help me
It's not healthy... for me to feel this way
Y.O.U. are making this hard
You got me tossin' and turnin' and can't sleep at night

[Bridge:]
This time please someone come and rescue me
'Cause you on my mind it's got me losing it
I'm lost, you got me lookin' for the rest of me
Love is testing me but still I'm losing it
This time please someone come and rescue me
'Cause you on my mind, it's got me losing it
I'm lost, you got me looking for the rest of me,
Got the best of me, so now I'm losing it

Needless to say, I really don't appreciate Rihanna's music. But clearly in this song, she's calling for help from some guy to alleviate some tension. SMH. Why is a twelve year old singing this song? SMH. The guy is not Jesus. I do not need to go into the spiritual implications here. Some desires do not need to be indulged.

Next song that I've been thinking about this week: White Flag by Dido. Here's the lyrics:
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
My friend tells me that this is how life is sometimes. Um ...not for me. I think to be hung up on someone so much is just depressing and difficult. Can't do it. I will try to refuse because he say life is unpredictable. But the spiritual connotation is.. well, God does call for us to surrender to Him and this song is just not surrendering, desperately clinging to the hope of a lost relationship.

So, yeah. I'm trying to stop my mind from thinking about these songs because these songs don't help me grow spiritually. SMH

Update: Focusing on Jesus is the key.

Wonderful Children

Bless my heart! Their ruder than when I first believed and ridiculously bright. Too bad intelligence does not mean wisdom. Can you believe this child in front of my face decided to kick another child, make him cry and think that it was OK for her to do that? She has lost it. Then, there are those who think their too smart to listen to any adult and they find joy in talking back to adults. Did someone say corporal punishment? No I would never do that... Any who...the Lord is good who promised, and these children do not determine my happiness. Praise Jesus! Keep my lips from guile Lord!

What is Kwanzaa?

I thought that it should be important for me to do some research on Kwanzaa before I went all full throttle Kwanzaa mode. Kwanzaa is a holiday created by  Maulana Karenga . While secular in nature, it does celebrate the cultural heritage on Black people in America. The Seven core principles of Kwanzaa are: Umoja  (Unity): To strive for and to maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race. Kujichagulia  (Self-Determination): To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves. Ujima  (Collective Work and Responsibility): To build and maintain our community together and make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems, and to solve them together. Ujamaa  ( Cooperative Economics ): To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together. Nia  (Purpose): To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to...

Testimonies Part 3: Boring Testimony Please!

My friend and fellow volunteer teacher, Mrs. Lawrence is a doll. She was telling me the other day about a retreat she attended in which a lady mentioned that she wanted all her children to have boring testimonies. She explained that boring meant that they don't leave God to have an adventure in the world but they spend their whole life serving God. Isn't that what we all want for our children? Safe lives? Let me not downplay the testimony of someone who never dabbled in worldliness or was enslaved to sin. It's not boring. Being used by God is a good thing. We're so warped and twisted that we think the world has something better to offer. So we go out in the world, waiting for God's "big reveal" and then if he does, we devote the rest of our life to Him. But if we don't get that "big reveal"? Then our life would be a testimony to the power of the Devil. Personally, I like working for God and to know I'm in His will. It's assuring a...
